A poodle had to be rescued from a cliff ledge on North Tyneside after escaping when he was tied up outside a shop in Tynemouth two miles away.

The Humber Coastguard received a report this morning that a dog had been spotted perched on a cliff ledge just above the high water mark on the north side of Marconi Point, at Browns Bay near Cullercoats.

A member of the Tynemouth Volunteer Lifeboat Brigade waded across the to the dog and safely brought him ashore.

Arnie's family were tracked down and reunited with their dog.
