12 months ago, production was halted at Teesside's steelworks. It was the beginning of the end of the North East's proud steelmaking history when just 6 weeks later, SSI UK confirmed it was closing the plant for good.
3,000 SSI staff and contractors were left redundant, many thousands more went on to lose their jobs in the supply chain. Help was offered through a task force with government money to help people back into work.
