Tesco apology over 'Jimmy Savile' marmalade scrawl

Tesco has apologised to a home delivery customer after she received a jar of Seville marmalade altered to say 'Jimmy Savile' on it.

Bar owner Kate Shepherd, from County Durham, said she was shocked when she began putting her shopping away and saw the label had been altered with a marker pen, referring to Jimmy Savile.

The delivery was ordered from Tesco Extra in Durham. The company has sent an apology to Ms Shepherd.

"I took it with a pinch of salt which is lucky. My concern would be if it landed in someone else's bag, it could have caused great offence."

"This is clearly unacceptable and we are investigating how this could have happened. We have apologised to Ms Shepherd, and offered her a full refund and a voucher off her next shop with Tesco."
