Potential dog owners urged not to be put off by 'scary' appearances

Two homeless hounds are hoping to find their forever homes this Halloween - urging potential owners not to be put off by their seemingly 'spooky' faces.

Staff at Dogs Trust Darlington say Lady, a two-year-old Whippet and Rocco the three-year-old Akita, have sweet natures.

Rocco, whose distinctive face, dark eyes and pointy ears have made him a big hit with canine carers at the rehoming centre, remains overlooked by potential owners.

“Rocco is such a lovely, big dog but I his size can put people off! Very often he is compared to a vampire bat, however I don’t think vampire bats smile quite as much as Rocco.

“We are appealing to families who have experience of caring for larger breed dogs to come forward and offer this cheeky chap a home to call his own. Once you get to know Rocco his funny personality shines through. He’s an independent boy but he also loves affection.

“Rocco would benefit from a quiet, adult only home with no other pets as he loves having his own space.”

“Lady is a lovely young girl who is full of energy and fun. She absolutely adores getting attention and really enjoyed her Halloween photoshoot. She’s quite the superstar!

“She is a sociable girl with lots of doggy friends who she loves playing with at the centre but as one would expect from a Lady, she likes to choose her friends carefully and is particular about the doggy companions she spends time with. Lady would make a great companion for the right home and would be best suited to families with older children in their teens.”

“We can’t understand why Lady hasn’t found a home yet because she is so affectionate and quickly becomes everyone’s best friend.”
