72 projects across the North East are the latest to benefit from awards from the Big Lottery Fund, sharing in £943,253.

One organisation that has been awarded funding is Grace House North East in Sunderland, which has received £186,666 for a Caring for Carers service.

Caring for Carers aims to improve the health and resilience of families in Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside who are caring for children with complex disabilities.

The project will provide practical and emotional support to families who may be isolated, struggling to juggle caring, work and family time, or missing out on time to themselves or with siblings.

Services include counselling, alternative therapies, peer support and social groups, training, drop in support, and practical help to make accessing respite care easier.
