A South Tyneside school which was judged to be failing only a few years ago is now one of the most improved in the country.
Ridgeway Primary Academy, in South Shields, is the most improved mainstream school for writing.
With writing, reading and maths combined it is the 13th most improved out of 21,000 schools nationwide.
Head Teacher, Michael McCarthy says the improvements reflect the dedication of staff, pupils and parents.
The school, which had been judged to be failing by Ofsted, became an academy sponsored by South Tyneside College in 2013.
In December Ofsted revisited Ridgeway and praised the school, calling the improvements, 'dramatic' and rating it as Good.
