Police are appealing for help to find a missing 66-year-old Gateshead woman.

Ellen Mundell from Hookergate Lane in Hookergate was last seen at 9.30pm on Saturday, April 8 at her home address.

She was found to be missing at 9am on Sunday morning.

She is described as:

  • 5 ft 4" tall
  • Of medium build
  • White
  • Shoulder length dark hair
  • Brown eyes.

It is not known what she is wearing.

Police are concerned for her welfare and are carrying out enquiries to locate Mrs Mundell.

Her car, a Ford Focus, has been found in the Newburn area of Newcastle at approximately 6pm on Sunday, April 9, and officers are searching the area.

Officers are appealing for Ellen to make contact with them, or anyone who recognises her to call police straightaway.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police.

Superintendent Nicola Musgrove said:

We're becoming increasingly concerned about Ellen who has now not been seen for more than 36 hours. It is completely out of character for her to go missing and we know her family are distraught.

Her car was found in the Newburn area of Newcastle at around 6pm on Sunday evening and we have been carrying out a search of that area, however, she could be anywhere.

We're asking members of the public to help us in our enquiries and keep their eyes out for her when there out and about. If anyone sees a woman fitting Ellen's description then we want to hear from them."
