The Lions of Zululand are touring schools across the UK, starting today at a Primary School in County Durham.
Lions of Zululand are a group of singers and dancers from some of the poorest regions of South Africa.
They have been together for 12 years, and perform mainly in schools. A spokesman said:
"Employing authentic African dancers and singers gives a rich experience students will never forget. Emphasis is always on inclusion; participants will get the opportunity to learn and reproduce the skills they have gained in the workshops, leaving them feeling confident and inspired. The Lions’ singing, dancing and drumming is empowering; participation builds confidence, concentration, physical coordination and is an amazing team building exercise."
The first date of their tour takes them to Sugar Hill Primary School in Newton Aycliffe.
