Construction work on a replacement bridge over the Coast Road on North Tyneside has been delayed because of last night's weather.
The work was supposed to take place today - the bridge is more than 50 years old and needs urgent attention - but due to "extreme weather" it will now take place tomorrow.
The contractors told the council that the work necessary to prioritise the slip roads was not safe to do.
The bridge will now be closed to all vehicles from tomorrow morning (Thursday 8 June).
What does the bridge closure mean for you?
Pedestrians and cyclists: You will be able to cross the Coast Road at all times as there will still be a footpath throughout the work.
Drivers: With the bridge closed to vehicles, signed diversions will be in place.
