A racing driver is in an induced coma in hospital on Teesside after a major crash during a race in the British Touring Car Championship at the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire.

Luke Davenport had to be cut free from his car and was airlifted to hospital. The crash left him with extensive injuries; damage to his chest and lungs and a broken leg, arm and pelvis.

Two other drivers were also injured in the multi-car pile up.

The weekend of racing was supposed to be a celebration of Croft's 20th anniversary of re-joining the touring car calendar.
