Man seriously injured in HGV collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in a collision with a HGV in York.

The incident happened at approximately 1.10am on Tuesday 11 July on Lawrence Street outside the BP garage at the junction with Nicholas Gardens.

The collision involved a white DAF refrigerated lorry travelling towards York city centre and a 52-year-old local man.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The driver of the lorry, a 58-year-old man, also from the York area was unhurt in the incident and has been assisting police with their enquiries.

Officers want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle or pedestrian in the area around the time of the incident.

The pedestrian was wearing distinctive red trousers and had been on the same side of the road as the BP garage prior to the collision.
