Eurofighter takes to the skies

The world’s most advanced swing-role combat aircraft, the Eurofighter Typhoon, has taken to the skies at the Sunderland International Airshow.

It is one of the few air displays to take place today because of the poor weather conditions. The Great North Air Ambulance has also treated crowds to a display.

Lifeguards have been patrolling the seafront at Roker and Seaburn as large waves whip along the coast.

Two parachute events by the RAF Falcons and the Tigers had to be cancelled earlier this afternoon because of poor visibility.
