Peterlee Mayor charged with grooming boy under 16

The Mayor of Peterlee has appeared in court charged with attempting to meet a boy under the age of 16 following grooming.

Councillor Lee Cook, 29, of Quantock Place, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court, where he indicated a guilty plea.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Durham Crown Court on August 25 for sentencing.

He was given bail on the condition he is not to have unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16, directly or indirectly, including social media.

Peterlee Town Council says Mr Cook resigned his position today.
