I'm a Celebrity star Vicky Pattison, former SAFC footballer Kevin Ball, and Apprentice contestant Katie Bulmer-Cooke took part in a 'sleep out' at the Stadium of Light to raise awareness of homelessness among young people.
Along with 100 other volunteers, they swapped their beds for sleeping bags on November 2 to raise funds for youth homelessness charity Centrepoint and SAFC charity Foundation of Light.
Centrepoint works with more than 200 homeless young people every day in the North East, providing accommodation and support to help young people to turn their lives around.
“Sleep Out was definitely a challenge – it was cold, it was really hard to sleep and my body is aching this morning. It was amazing to see so many people sleeping out and showing their support. There’s still time to sponsor me, all funds raised will help Centrepoint support homeless young people to turn their lives around.”
“It was fantastic to have the support of Vicky, Kevin, Katie and 100 other sleepers who braved a bitterly cold night. There is always a fun atmosphere as the night begins but as people settle down to sleep you feel the mood change. That’s when participants to get a glimpse the terrifying reality for some of the most vulnerable young people in this city. “The money we raise will help support young people as they tackle the physical and mental health problems caused by homelessness and give them the skills and confidence to find work or return to education.”
