Ant and Dec swept the board at the National Television Awards, picking up 3 awards.

The pair arrived just in the nick of time to accept the Best Challenge Show award for I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!

Joining the cast of 2017 onstage the jubilant pair thanked everyone for voting.

Ant McPartlin, who made his first public appearance since he revealed he is splitting from his wife, said:

We love making I'm A Celebrity ... Get me Out Of Here! Thank you for loving it too. We want to make it forever!"

Declan Donnelly said:

Just a huge, huge thank you to everybody who took the time to vote for us, to ITV for their continued support. But the biggest thanks is of course to the class of 2017 everybody!"

– Dec

Stars also paid tribute to the late all-round entertainer Sir Bruce Forsyth at what was the first National Television Awards since his death.

The awards remembered the former presenter, singer, dancer and gameshow host as Ant and Dec took home the first prize in his memory for their Saturday Night Takeaway show.

Presenting the award, Sir Bruce's widow Lady Wilnelia Forsyth said she was "proud and honoured that this special award is named after my darling Bruce".

She added: "I know he would have loved it because show business was his life."

Ant and Dec were back on stage to pick up the TV presenter award, a triumph for the Geordie duo in that category for the 17th year running.

McPartlin, who admitted he was shaking, said:

It's been a very emotional night tonight. It's been quite a year, been quite a tough 12 months so winning this tonight really means a lot. I would personally like to thank all my family, all my friends, some are here tonight, I love you, thank you very much.

Thank you to all of you for your support. It really really means the world to me, it's helped me get through it."

He recently announced his divorce from wife Lisa after 11 years, following months of speculation about their relationship.

Earlier in January, he said he was "very sad" to confirm the news, which came months after a stint in rehab for a two-year addiction to super-strength painkillers following a knee operation in 2015.

Addressing Donnelly at the ceremony, McPartlin said:

Thanks to you little guy."

Donnelly said:

It has been quite a year but this has really topped it off...possibly this year more than any other".

– Dec

Ant McPartlin said he needed a lie down after he and presenting partner Declan Donnelly won three awards at the National Television Awards.

In the winners' room, McPartlin said:

It's been a tough year for me personally, quite an emotional night so to kind of top it off with three awards has been ... can I have a lie down now? I'm feeling very good thank you."

I love working with him (Dec) and that was the one thing ... I had a very tough summer last summer, I had to face up to a lot of things and my one thing was just getting back to work and getting back to work with my best mate, we done it.

Loved the series of I'm A Celebrity ... we did some Takeaway stuff today, we actually done a little bit of filming for Sir Bruce. To win an award in his honour tonight was really quite fitting. I need a lie down, or a stiff drink or something.

I felt the love, I felt the support, we both have and me personally over the course of the last year and it kind of topped off tonight so thank you."
