Body of County Durham man found in Scottish Highlands

The body of Alan Gibson, 56, from County Durham has been found after he went missing with his brother while walking in the Scottish Highlands.

Mr Gibson, set off with his brother Neil, 63, on Thursday 8 February for a walk in the Achnashellach area of Strathcarron, Wester Ross. They were reported missing when they failed to return.

Extensive land and air searches are continuing

Mr Gibson's body was recovered on Saturday after extensive searches by Torridon and Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Teams, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and the Search and Rescue Dog Association.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Searches for Neil Gibson are not currently ongoing as conditions will not permit at present. This will be reveiwed in due course."

Rescue teams are searching for a fourth day in sub zero temperatures

It's believed the brothers were experienced climbers and walkers. They were walking with their black Pointer dog, Archie, which is also still missing.

“Neil is a super guy, he's fantastic, he's well liked. He's an experienced climber and walker, he's worked a lot in Munros and the hills.

"He's probably been up that hill before."
