A man has been arrested on Teesside over the alleged killing of a schoolgirl in an unsolved murder case from 25 years ago.
Northumbria Police detained a man in Stockton on suspicion of murdering Nikki Allan following a raid on a house in the town’s Middleton Walk.
Nikki was seven years old when she vanished after leaving her grandparents’ flat in Sunderland’s Wear Garth in October 1992. She was found stabbed to death in a derelict building nearby.
The force said the arrest on Tuesday was connected to a “historic offence”.
The man has been released under investigation and Northumbria Police say enquiries are ongoing.
