Former X Factor star Joe McElderry was forced to cancel a gig at the last minute after it emerged the venue had received a 'suspicious letter' days before.
The 26-year-old, was set to perform at The Empire Theatre in Consett, County Durham on Friday 27, April
But the South Shields star, called off the show shortly before he was due on stage after being told the theatre had received the letter three days earlier.
In a statement the Climb singer said:
Earlier today, followers were told: "Due to an incident beyond our control last night at The Empire Theatre Consett, Joe’s performance was cancelled.
"All ticket info please contact the box office."
Fans tweeted the star messages of support.

Michelle added: "Glad you’re safe Joe & it sounds like you took exactly the right course of action xx."
Some blamed the theatre for not letting McElderry know sooner.
Violet Liane said: "Safety always comes first, you are very wise to cancel so everyone can be safe. But the theatre is not very wise to tell you last minutes before the show. Thank goodness we have you to do the right thing for everyone's sake. Respect to you Mr. McElderry!"
Jacquie Lemon added: "I wish the theatre had alerted you and Team Joe earlier so you didn’t have to go through such a horrible experience on stage. Sending love to all for tonight's show xx."
McElderry is due to play Whitley Bay Playhouse tonight, with his tour to continue in Swindon and then Cannock.
The Empire Theatre was contacted for comment but there was no one available to speak.
