As the Great North 10K Gateshead celebrates it's tenth anniversary 200 Gurkhas from the Catterick Garrison are to join the race.
The Nepalese soldiers are currently going through a 39-week training course, with the Gateshead 10K also acting as part of their programme to learn about and adjust to living in the UK.
With only a few weeks to go the Gurkhas are eager to enjoy the big experience.
Sergeant Dipesh Rai said: "We feel very proud to be taking part in the Simplyhealth Great North 10K once again. We are looking forward to it because we will gain a new experience helping us to enhance camaraderie and sportmanship.
"The Gurkhas are coming - Aayo Gurkhali!"
The Great North 10K Gateshead is the sister event to the Great North Run and takes in the Sage, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
It begins on Sunday 8 July.
