A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft after a mechanical digger was used to ramraid a supermarket in a County Durham village on Monday. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Residents of a small County Durham village have spoken of their shock after a JCB crashed into the wall of a supermarket and stole a cashpoint in the middle of the night.
Police received numerous calls from members of the public around 2am on the morning of Monday 17th September, with reports of a JCB outside the Sainsbury's store on Grove Road, in Brandon, with alarms sounding.
It's been confirmed a cash machine has been stolen and was taken away in a silver pick up truck. The JCB was left at the scene.
Officers say that significant damage has been caused to the store where the vehicle was abandoned. Police are continuing to investigate and are monitoring CCTV footage.
