Two men have been jailed for killing vulnerable Ashley Cochrane in a brutal attack early on New Year's Day.
The 29-year-old was subjected to a ferocious and savage onslaught by Sean Histon and George Dixon as they tried to get his bank details out of him.
Ashley was left so badly injured even his friends couldn't recognise him.
He was killed at Catherine House, in Byker, in the first few minutes of 2018.
On Tuesday Histon was convicted of murder while Dixon was found guilty of manslaughter.
Histon has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years while Dixon was jailed for 17 years.
The pair were sentenced today at Newcastle Crown Court.
