7-year-old girl in critical condition after Darlington fire

A seven-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital after a fire in Darlington.

Fire crews were called to a house on Esk Road at 1.46pm on Saturday to reports of a girl trapped in an upstairs bedroom.

The girl was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough before being transferred to the RVI in Newcastle.

A 16-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of arson has been released under investigation.

The police say it was an isolated incident.
