Major travel disruption is expected tonight owing to a power cut that has affected more than 5,000 properties in York.
National Rail said the power outage has prevented trains from calling at the city's train station, meaning services running through York could be hit by delays of up to 30 minutes.
The disruption is expected to continue until at least 7pm tonight, the operator said on its website.
The power outage has also forced the closure of the nearby National Railway Museum, which hopes to reopen tomorrow
The Northern Powergrid said via Twitter than an "unexpected power cut is affecting 5058 properties" in York.
City of York Council said: "We can confirm a power outage is causing significant disruption across road and rail.
"Please avoid non-essential travel."
North Yorkshire Police warned road users to be cautious, adding some traffic lights have been affected.
