Cleveland Police are warning young people about the consequences of possessing imitation firearms after three youths took a fake firearm into a school in Redcar.

Officers were called to a report of three teenagers in possession of a firearm at the school on Thursday January 10, where it was confirmed to be an imitation pistol and was seized by police.

Two males aged 15 and one aged 16 were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and have been released under investigation.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “If you possess or use an imitation firearm to cause fear of violence then you could be risking your life.

"It is extremely irresponsible to possess imitation firearms in a public place, particularly in a school. Let this be a warning that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

"Those caught with an imitation firearm not only cause extreme fear to those around them but they also waste valuable time and police resources and will face the full force of the law if they caught in the possession of an imitation weapon."
