Appeal after 14-year-old girl is sexually assaulted in Normanby

Police are appealing for information after a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Normanby on Sunday 17 February.

The incident happened at around 9.30pm as the victim walked alone along a wooded pathway which runs adjacent to Ormesby Road, between the junction of Cricket Lane and Normanby Hall Park.

The suspect is described as a black male aged in his late twenties or early thirties, between 5ft 11” tall and 6ft tall, of large build with muscular arms.

Detectives investigating the assault are carrying out a number of lines of inquiry, including house to house and exploring CCTV opportunities in the area around where the incident took place.

Detective Constable Iona Leigh-Jones said:

The victim and her family are currently being supported by specialist officers and she has been very brave in coming forward to speak with us.

Detectives are making every effort to trace the person responsible and are carrying out enquiries in the local area today, including trying to trace private CCTV cameras and speaking with local residents.

Whilst we know that this incident will be concerning for local residents, we have additional officers who will be patrolling the area to help reassure them.”
