UK's top 500 outstanding sites named - but which of these hotspots didn't make the list?
Hadrian's Wall has been named in the top five out of a list of 500 of Britain's most outstanding sites.
A travel company put the list together and referred to the 73-mile wall as the north's "mighty Roman legacy".
In total, 16 sights and experiences in North East England feature in the list, from contemplating 1000 years of ecclesiastical history at Durham Cathedral at number 21 to boarding Britain's oldest afloat fighting ship in Hartlepool at 475.
