A 72 year old pedestrian has died after a suspected hit and run in Billingham.
William Arthur Lewis who lived in Billingham was allegedly struck by a silver Land Rover Discovery on Belasis Avenue at around 8:30pm on Friday 23 August.
Cleveland Police said: ''Our sympathies and thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time and specialist officers will be offering support to them.''
The vehicle was understood to be travelling west along Belasis Avenue when it left the carriageway on the roundabout at Chiltons Avenue. Police say it then collided with the gentleman. The Land Rover allegedly came to rest in the junction of Tibbersley Avenue.
Investigating officers say the driver got out of the Land Rover and left the scene in another vehicle.

A 37 year old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and three other men (16, 22 and 32) have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
All four remain in police custody at this time and inquiries are continuing today.
