A 34-year-old women has suffered what are being described as 'serious, life changing injuries' after falling from a moving car in Newcastle.

Police are investigating after reports a woman had fallen out of an off white Mini Cooper at 9pm on Tuesday evening ( 27th August) 9.00pm yesterday (Tuesday) on West Street in Wallsend.

It's believed the woman was then pulled back into the car before it made it's way towards the Coast Road and drove in the direction of Newcastle.

The woman was later taken to hospital.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent- and remains in police custody.

“This is a very concerning incident in which a woman has sustained potentially life-changing injuries.
