Enchanted Parks, the annual light festival that has been held in Saltwell Park, Gateshead, for more than a decade, has been cancelled.
The event was due to take place between December 10 and 15, with a theme dubbed a ‘Moonlit Menagerie.’
But now organisers say the festival will be “taking a break for 2019.”
Run by the NewcastleGateshead Initiative in conjunction with Gateshead Council, Enchanted Parks attracts more than 30,000 visitors every year.
Dozens of specially commissioned art works are lit up in the grounds of the Victorian Park, billed as a “magical and mythical wonderland” by organisers.
In a joint statement, Gateshead Council and the NewcastleGateshead Initiative said:
“Enchanted Parks will be taking a break in 2019 as we seek to develop a new programme of activity and secure the additional funding required for a unique event of this scale. However, working closely with our partners it’s our ambition to return this popular event in 2020.
“As always there are a range of other special winter events, exhibitions and celebrations in NewcastleGateshead and the wider North East, for residents and visitors to enjoy."
