Man in his eighties seriously injured after being hit by a car in Middlesbrough

A teenage boy has been arrested after an 84-year old man was hit by a car in Middlesbrough.

The pedestrian was hit by a grey VW Golf as he crossed Acklam Road at its junction with Trimdon Avenue just before 9pm on Friday night.

He was seriously injured, with several fractured bones and abdominal injuries. He is being treated at James Cook University Hospital.

The 17-year-old driver, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking without consent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
