A couple from the North East have been given "the surprise of their life" by Ant and Dec on the return episode of ITV's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Simon and Petra Williams were in the audience for the show when the surprise was sprung on them.

The Geordie duo presenting team told Simon and Petra that they were being given ownership of a three bedroom house in Newcastle. It was provided by homebuilder Bellway, which has its headquarters in the city.

The presenters said the couple were part of "an extraordinary family".

They were chosen thanks to Petra's work in running Darcey's Dream, a charity which helps bereaved families who have lost a child.

She set the charity up in memory of the couple's daughter, Darcey, who died at just 9-and-a half weeks old.

Petra runs the charity full time and without a salary so the family rely on Simon's wages and overtime from his job as a delivery driver.

Reacting to the surprise, Simon said it was "fantastic," Petra added she was "speechless".
