A number of Middlesbrough Council buildings will be closed from Wednesday to help combat the Coronavirus pandemic.

The closure is in line with Government and Public Health England guidance and will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.

The buildings that will be closed to the public are:

  • Middlesbrough Town Hall
  • Middlesbrough Civic Centre
  • Customer Contact Centre
  • All leisure centres and gyms
  • Community Hubs and Libraries
  • Museums
  • Teesside Archives
  • Middlesbrough Theatre
  • Newham Grange Leisure Farm
  • Community Learning facility
  • Children's centres

However, a number of key facilities that deliver front-line services will remain open:

  • The Live Well Centre
  • Nurseries
  • Day Centres

These closures are sadly unavoidable in light of the latest public health advice.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but the health of our residents and our staff, especially the vulnerable, is of paramount importance and we must do everything we can to slow the spread of Coronavirus.

Many of the buildings will remain in use by Council staff who continue to work round the clock to deliver services and help those in need.

We're keeping the situation under constant review, and I'm grateful to everyone for their patience and understanding."

– Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston
