A 29-year-old nurse who previously worked at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle has died after contracting coronavirus.
The Newcastle NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that the former staff member had worked at the children's cancer until a number of months ago.
In a statement the Trust said: ''Our thoughts are with her family and friends''.
The Trust was also keen to stress that the nurse had not worked at the children's cancer unit at the RVI for a number of months, after the news caused some concern for families receiving treatment there.
The Trust said: ''It has been reported that she worked on the children's cancer unit at the RVI and understandably, this has caused concerns for many families who are receiving treatment with us.
''The team would like to send their heartfelt sympathies and condolences to their former colleague and also clarify that she has not worked at the Trust for many months.
''If your child is receiving treatment from us, it is really important to continue to follow the advice and instructions given by your clinical teams.''
