Police have dismissed reports claiming a large group of officers broke up a party in Stockton-on-Tees over the weekend.

Footage taken on Saturday night showed several police vehicles and at least two ambulances in High Newham Road.

Reports in the national media suggested a party had taken place there despite coronavirus lockdown regulations.

Police have now confirmed though that the operation was in response to a man becoming unwell following an altercation in the street.

No one was arrested but officers say support was called in after a number of people began to approach to see what was happening and were told to return to their homes.
