Detectives investigating the death of a man in Sunderland have confirmed they are currently treating it as suspicious.

Officers were called to an address on Aintree Road on Wednesday 03 June after the North East Ambulance Service found the body of a 48-year-old man inside.

The man's next of kin have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police have now launched an investigation into the man’s death.

An increased police presence remains at the scene as officers carry out enquiries and offer any reassurance to people living nearby.

Police have arrested five people, 4 on suspicion of murder and one man on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All five individuals remain in police custody and are assisting officers with their enquiries.
