Officers hunt for man acting 'suspiciously' inside Metro Station

Armed police and a helicopter have been involved in the hunt for man acting suspiciously in South Shields.

Police confirmed at 4pm on Wednesday, January 22 that they are currently still trying to identify and find the man in question.

Man acting suspiciously believed to be an isolated incident

Officers searching in South Shields after receiving reports of a man acting suspiciously in Chichester Road have said they believe this is an "isolated incident".

Armed police and a helicopter have been involved in the hunt, which started at 11am this morning.

Police attended and carried out a search of the area to trace the man, these searches utilised a number of police resources to assist with the search.

Initial enquiries suggest this is an isolated incident of a report of a man acting suspiciously.

However, police recognise incidents such as this can be concerning and officers will remain in the area to offer reassurance to the local community."

The man is described as 5 foot 10 inches tall, with grey hair. He was wearing a short tan-coloured jacket.

Police are searching on South Tyneside after receiving reports of a man acting suspiciously in Chichester Road in South Shields.

The man is described as 5ft 10ins tall, with grey hair and grey stubble. He was wearing a short tan-coloured jacket.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police has said:

Police were called to Chichester Road at 11am this morning after reports were made of a man acting suspiciously. Officers are currently carrying out inquiries in the area."
