Anne-Marie Trevelyan calls Boris's foreign secretary appointment 'a smart move'

The Berwick-upon-Tweed MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan has called the move to appoint Boris Johnson as foreign secretary 'smart'.

She has been speaking to ITV's Around The House.

Ms. Trevelyan was a LEAVE campaigner during the EU Referendum and says Boris Johnson will now be at the 'heart' of Brexit discussions, once the new cabinet has settled in.


Wharton 'disappointed' at Boris leadership u-turn

Northern Powerhouse Minister James Wharton has expressed his disappointment at Boris Johnson's decision to pull out of the race for the Conservative Party leadership.

The Stockton South MP said yesterday's announcement was disappointing as Mr Johnson had given him assurances regarding the future of the party and Britain after its exit from the European Union.

Mr Wharton said he would be speaking to all the party's leadership candidates before deciding who to back.

Boris Johnson is urging North East voters to 'take back control' in the EU Referendum.

The Conservative MP has been in Piercebridge, near Darlington trying to convince the members of the public to 'Vote Leave'.

On a visit to Teesside, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has sampled a parmo for the first time.

Boris visited Conyers School in Yarm this lunchtime.

The Conservative mayor attended a mock question time with children at the school.

He praised the North East as being a vital contributor to the UK economy.

When asked about full dualing of the A1, Johnson backed the cause, saying the government should dual the whole of the A1.

He may have been caught on the hop, adding: 'Have I just committed us to something?'

Incidentally, for those that don't know, a parmo is a Teesside delic acy consisting of deep-fried chicken in bread crumbs topped with a white sauce and cheese.
