Good luck to 17-year-old Samantha Lavery as she performs in the X Factor live shows tonight.

The teenager from Coxhoe in County Durham is being mentored by Simon Cowell in the girls category.

Her mum Tracey Lavery and grandfather Ernie Peachey joined our very own Helen Pearson and Ian Payne, and told them the "whole of Coxhoe" is behind Sam:

"Everywhere you go you see her name up in the banners and vote for Sam. People have taken to her because she's such a likeable girl."

Lottery money for community-run sport facility

The Active Life Centre @Coxhoe has won almost £50,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

The money will be used to resurface the centre's outdoor sports pitch with a synthetic surface.

This will provide a year-round sports facility for the community.

The leisure centre was saved from closure and re launched as Active Life by the community-run charity Future Leisure in Coxhoe, after members took over its operation from Durham County Council in 2011.

Centre Manager, Melanie Adams, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our outdoor sports facilities as part of our overall vision to create a wide range of sports and fitness programmes for all ages in our community.”
