Nestle UK Chief Executive Fiona Kendrick has said: "There's no question that both Nestle and indeed the food and drink industry has an ageing workforce. So it is important that we start to bring the new young generation in."
Her comments come as the company announced plans to create 1,600 jobs in the UK, with young people in Newcastle and York thought to benefit.
Nestle UK, Chief Executive, Fiona Kendrick says the 1900 new jobs the company is offering to young people will include apprenticeships, graduate posts, work experience and the company's new Fast Start programme.
Nestle is planning to create 16 hundred jobs for young people over the next three years. Positions, ranging from management to working on the shop floor, will be spread over the company's sites in the UK and Ireland, including Newcastle and York.
They're also planning to offer 300 paid work experience placements.
