Part of the Tyne and Wear Metro will close for refurbishment for nearly a month - the longest disruption in its history.

Preparations are underway for the multi-million pound modernisation of one of the region's transport networks. The stretch of the Tyne and Wear metro that leads to the airport is closing for a month from this weekend. Replacement bus services will be in place.
