Lee Grainger will serve at least 12 and a half years of a life sentence for the manslaughter of Darlington grandmother Sybil Sibthorpe.
He had previously admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility after psychiatric experts found he lost his self-control due to a head injury.
