Residents evacuated in Saltburn as 70mph winds cause damage to buildings

Residents on Marine Parade were evacuated just after 4am this morning. after winds of up to 70 miles per hour caused damage to the roof of a number of homes and flats.

Six fire engines were called to the road on the sea front in Saltburn to help get members of the public to safety.

Residents from nearby Sea View Nursing Home were also evacuated - they are currently being looked after by other care homes in the area.

We understand the council are now on hand to co-ordinate when the public will be allowed back into the buildings. The road currently remains cordoned off.
