A paedophile who was found with more than 20,000 indecent images of children has been jailed.
73-year-old Neville Black was sentenced to 16 months behind bars yesterday (December 14) after he was arrested in an operation by the force's cyber crime unit at the end of October.
Black was already on the sex offenders' register and was being monitored by detectives when his home on Ferguson Lane in Newcastle was raided as part of the week of action.
Officers found he had an established technical set up in his home which he used to download and edit indecent images of children and store them on multiple hard drives.
They found more than 20,000 images over four different computers with the age of the children in the images thought to be between six and 12-years-old.
Investigators from the cyber crime unit were then faced with the task of viewing the images before Black was eventually charged with 13 counts of making an indecent image of a child.
He pleaded guilty and was jailed by a judge at Newcastle Crown Court.
The judge also handed him a Sexual Offences prevention order and ordered the destruction of the indecent material.
