Man remains in serious condition after being found unconscious with head injuries

Police are appealing for information one week on from when a man was found with serious head injuries in Newcastle.

A 26-year-old man was found unconscious by a member of the public in Newgate Street, at around 7.30pm on Saturday, January 16. Paramedics were called fro the man near to the Gate complex in the city centre.

The man was taken to the RVI where he received treatment for serious head and facial injuries. His injuries are consistent with a serious assault and he remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Police were made aware of this on Wednesday, January 20, and enquiries were immediately launched to try and establish how the man sustained his injuries.

CCTV footage from the area has been checked and it doesn't show any altercations or fights.

The man is thought to have left the Keel Row pub inside the Gate around 7.15pm and was wearing dark jeans, brown shoes, a white jumper with a dark zig zag pattern on the collar and a brown coloured straight cut coat.

The assault happened on the same Saturday Newcastle United played West Ham United at home and the city centre was busy.
