Train manufacturer to build new commuter trains in County Durham in £230 million deal

A train manufacturer will build 95 new carriages in County Durham to connect the North-East with Manchester and Liverpool.

Hitachi Rail Europe's site in Newton Aycliffe will deliver the order worth £230 million for FirstGroup’s TransPennine Express franchise.

Another train built by Hitachi.

Trains are expected to be on the tracks by 2019.

First Group now taken full ownership of the franchise and plans to invest £500 million in improving trains, service and some stations.
