North Yorkshire Police say they are not aware of any evidence that might link the case of missing York chef Claudia Lawrence with the convicted killer Christopher Halliwell who was jailed last week.

Former detective superintendent Steve Fulcher, who brought Halliwell to justice, caught the 52-year-old following the abduction of Sian O'Callaghan from outside a nightclub in Swindon in 2011.

The taxi driver then went on to confess to murdering both Miss O'Callaghan and Becky Godden, and now Mr Fulcher believes Halliwell's links to the area Miss Lawrence vanished in should be investigated.

“The investigation team is aware of this matter and they will carefully assess the information in line with the on-going review of the Claudia Lawrence case. However, to be clear, the team is not aware of any evidence that would link this individual to the disappearance and suspected murder of Claudia.”
