The former chief executive of Butterwick Hospice appeared in court today accused of stealing from the charity.
Graham Leggatt-Chidgey faces two charges of fraud by false representation and one charge of theft.
Teesside Magistrates Court heard the alleged offences took place over an eight year period.
He entered no pleas, and will appear at Teesside Crown Court on October 18th.
The 62-year-old stood down from his role at the organisation in April.
The charity provides support for people with life-limiting illnesses at its hospices in Stockton and Bishop Auckland.
