Flood alerts are in place in various parts of the region as heavy rain falls and the recent snow recedes.

The Environment Agency says areas affected include Stamfordham, Ponteland and Stannington Vale, in Northumberland, where levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river from throughout Tuesday and Wednesday 7th March.

In Morpeth, the flood gates have been closed as the River Wansbeck continues to rise.

Lanchester in County Durham had several feet of water on the roads on Tuesday mornings, which had to be pumped out by the emergency services, following major rush-hour delays.
