Labour: Theresa May misses the issue on immigration

The Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has said the Home Secretary's promise to make it harder for certain asylum-seekers to stay in the UK on the grounds of human rights misses the point. She said the Government needs to focus on deporting foreign criminals instead.

Since the Home Secretary took office the number offoreign criminals being released into the community rather than being deportedhas gone up...Giving the courts stronger guidance on the way familyshould be considered in immigration cases is sensible although as theIndependent Inspector of UKBA has pointed out, the majority of foreigncriminals not deported do not remain here because of human rights.
