Olympic flame rides the Tube

The Olympic flame has taken the Tube as it continues its week-long journey through the capital. A total of 144 torchbearers, including rower James Cracknell and skier Chemmy Alcott, carried the flame 43 miles across London.

Torch relay turns southwards

The Olympic Flame's marathon seven-day tour of Scotland was hailed a resounding success as it made its way south of the border. Olympian Allan Wells, 60, carried the flame in the Borders town of Selkirk. He won gold in the 100m at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

The torch also visited Musselburgh in East Lothian; the Midlothian towns of Dalkeith, Lasswade, Loanhead, Bilston, Milton Bridge and Penicuik; and the Borders towns of Peebles, Innerleithen and Walkerburn.
